HEMMING PROCEDURE FOR VINYL BANNERS

There are many ways to hem the banner( glue, hemming tape, industrial sewing machine or heat welded seam)
The first two are mechanical methods to fasten banner material together and we spoke about it in some of our previous posts.
The two other methods are more advanced and require equipment. The first is industrial sewing machine fitted in with a double foot to enable parallel stitching . It requires a trained person to handle the machine. And the second method is heat welded seam. There are many companies producers of heat welding machines but today we would like to present you the company- leader in this field area.

POLE POCKETS AND WIND SLITS

POLE POCKETS

It is another finishing option for vinyl banner. Can be 2" and 3". Pole pocket allows rigid pole to be inserted into the banner. It allows hanging the banner evenly and prevents sagging. 

WIND SLITS

Wind slits(holes) are used for outdoor banners. In order to reduce the impact of wind up to 3% and prevent the damage of your vinyl  banner.

Therefor it is recommended to use mesh banner for enhanced airflow up to 70%.

WHAT ARE GROMMETS AND HEMS?

GROMMETS

Grommets(vinyl banner eyelets) are the standard finishing option for vinyl banners. They are rings 1/2 inch in diameter made from nickel or brass. Usually placed every 2-4 feet around the banner perimeter. Grommets are used along with the rope to help hanging the banner.

HEMS

Taken  one inch of vinyl banner material folded over the back side, attached together(heated or banner tape) and formed strong 1 inch hem.
Hems increase strength and durability of banner and prevent stretching. For better functionality   grommets are placed directly on hems.

INK USED FOR LARGE FORMAT PRINTERS

There are generally two types of ink used for large format printers.

1. SOLVENT: These inks are petroleum or acetone based. So called "Eco Solvent" ink contain glycol ester which results in slower drying and strong odor. The prints come out waterproof and may be used on vinyl as well as foam board, pvc etc. The solvent  softens  the material and allow the ink pigments latch onto the chemically etched surface. There are three types(Eco-Solvent, Medium Solvent and Full Solvent ) depending on level of solvent ink range. The fume and odor levels decrease accordingly. Therefor Eco - Solvent can be used in office environment.

2.AQUEUS : It is water based type of ink. In this case the pigment is held in non reactive like water or soy based liquid. There are two types of Aqueus Ink: Dye and UV. Dye Ink is high color but low UV resistance. UV Ink is duller in color but with higher UV resistance.Finished prints with Dye Ink must be laminated for protection if they are to be used outdoors. Prints with UV ink can be used unlaminated outdoors. Different materials can be used for printing with this kind of ink(cloth, banners, canvases and metabolized plastics)

STORING YOUR BANNER

To store your vinyl banner it should be always rolled up and put in storage tube. You should never fold it due to the fold marks that may remain. If there are some fold marks you should leave your banner in the hot sun for couple of hours. The heat may make light wrinkles disappear.

Banners with vinyl graphics should always be rolled with the letters facing up. That should prevent the lettering from getting detached. 

CLEANING YOUR BANNER

It is recommended to clean your banner every 1-3 months, as well as before storing it.
To clean vinyl banner you need just water and mild detergent.
Caution: Do not use household cleaners or any type of cleansers because these detergents will damage your vinyl banner. A soft non abrasive cloth should be used to clean and wipe dry.
